Dean Smushkowitz, better known as Dean The Wise, is an a Inner-City Sydney based musician most highlighted currently the lead vocalist/guitarist for Indie Rock band Before the King and his individual music releases.
The work of Dean and Before the King's rigorous gigging throughout Sydney's venues has cemented their their sound within the underground music scene.

Dean's music journey began from childhood. From evolving from beginning at the Keyboard to Guitar in his teenage years, Dean's family encouraged and promoted varying genres of music in their household, as more than a means of a hobby or career. Dean's Mother and Father saw music as a part of life and a monumental activity that could only saturate and bring pleasure to life itself.

Fortunately for Dean, during his time at High School, the friend group he found himself surrounded in from beginning, were the musicians.

Connecting with his current band members, Gabe (Drums) and Dan (Bassist), during their final years of High School, birthed the band 'Before the King". Later meeting their other guitarist Dan entering University, Before the King was now set in-motion to begin the journey to music stardom.

Before the King's success over the past two years that has been nothing short of extraordinary, as the band has been fortunate enough to collaborate, perform with and workshop with some of Sydney's most popular names in the current music scene.
​
Having sold out headlining shows at Waywards and the Chippo Hotel, Before the King has opened for several fantastic Australian musicians & Talent including the likes of The Lazy Eyes and The Tinderboxers to name a few. The sensational reactions to these shows have allowed them to extend the reach of their performances past Sydney, with upcoming shows in Newcastle, Canberra and Wollongong.

Deans contagious positive attitude drives his bands confident mind state. Deans inherit creativity is something obvious from a simple interaction. The way he navigates his intellect and creativity as they cohesively blend enables his band to succeed as a currently independent group.

In 2023, Dean and Before the King are scheduled to have a busy year. Shows, booked all over interstate NSW, the band is also planning to go Australia wide with a show in Canberra already booked and many other locations in the works.
